A young doctor of English origins is "shipped" on an island in the South Seas by a committee of doctors after London, to defend a jew merchant, killed for not determined force a Nazi sympathizer. Kit Masters assigned to the island of Koraloona Polynesian archipelago where, with the help of a Scottish physician, must test new treatments for frequent outbreaks of polio that occur on the island. Kit, sensitive topic, her sister was suffering from the same disease, threw heart and soul in search of a non-invasive treatment for the disease. Koraloona is light years away from the world it comes from and immediately captivates him with its slow pace, sunny beaches, the population simple and available. Koraloona is in effect the other half of heaven, beautiful and cruel at the same time, a perfect metaphor for life and contemporary history. The story of Gauguin's legacy is an invention that enriches the narrative of images and gives the reader a solid background illustrations, relevant and fits perfectly.
